Enid, Oklahoma had its beginnings in the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 189
3. Designated
as the County Seat of "O" County (later renamed Garfield County), it changed from
a lonely spot on the Chisholm Trail to a crowded city in one day!
Enid quickly grew
into a major center of agriculture, commerce, oil, and industry.
The mud streets with horses and wagons gave way to paved streets and electric streetcars,
which in turn gave way to automobiles.
The Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Enid provides a glimpse of the past in
its tour around the town sq
uare. Re-enactors bring to life some of the interesting
events and people that give Enid its colorful story.
